He moved to this country from Mexico City, and enlisted in the Marines that same day that he received his green card.  He gave his life in Iraq protecting his fellow Marines, and now he has a U.S. Navy Destroyer that was built in Maine named after him!

Over 3000 people showed up at Bath Iron Works this past Saturday morning for the christening of the USS Rafeal Peralta, a 509 foot long Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer that cost $1.9 billion to manufacture.

Family members of SGT. Rafeal Peralta attended the ceremony and spoke about the heroic Marine who lost his life in 2004 while clearing houses of insurgents in Iraq.  One insurgents tossed a grenade at Peralta's group, who grasped a hold of the munition to shield his fellow Marines from the blast. He was 25 years old.
