Police Chief Suffers Multiple Broken Bones When Struck By Car

The Van Buren police chief suffered multiple broken bones after being struck by a car involved in an 11-vehicle crash in white out conditions Tuesday morning.

Police Chief Michael Bresette was one of the first to arrive at the crash site on Route 1 in Cyr Plantation. After being struck by a car while outside his vehicle, Bresette dragged himself out of the road to avoid being struck a second time by an oncoming truck, according to police. He is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The heavy winds caused spotty white out conditions which were severe at the scene of the crash.  In all, There were 11 vehicles involved, including two Maine DOT plow trucks, one Van Buren police cruiser that was undamaged, seven passenger cars, and one pickup truck.

One DOT operator was struck and injured while he was on foot at the scene.

The accident is under investigation.
