One of my favorite childhood songs got its start on this date in 1955!

Johnny Cash recorded his first version of Folsom Prison Blues at the Sun Recording Studio in Memphis.  IN 1968 Cash recorded the live version at the prison itself, and At Folsom Prison became his most popular album.  Watch the video, man, that is good stuff!

One of the greatest party songs of all time hit #1 on this date in 1966, it was Wild Thing by The Troggs!  Besides a  big drinking song, it's best remembered as the song that intro'd Charlie Sheen's Major League movie character Ricky Vaughn when he would depart the bullpen and psychotically make his way to the pitching mound.

On this date in 1987, David Bowie, the "Thin White Duke",  began his Glass Spider Tour at the Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia.  Bowie had been riding the success of the Let's Dance album and wanted (once again) to do something different.  Critics panned the tour for the most part, although the Chicago Tribune called it "visually engrossing."

The power of Axel.  It was on this date in 1991 during the Use Your Illusion Tour that a limousine carrying Axel Rose made an illegal turn.  The limo was pulled over by police who attempted to give the driver a ticket.  Axel Rose threatened to cancel that night's show unless the ticket was torn up. The cop did so.

And today will be the day that local Van Halen fans will always remember, as the band plays Bangor tonight!  The gates to the Bangor Waterfront will open at 6 and the Kenny Wayne Shepard Band will kick it all off at 7!
