Archaeologists are working to uncover the past this week.

The Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site is once again being dug up. The annual dig is uncovering a village and three different forts from the 17th century. The site is listed as a National Historic Landmark.

The archaeologists are starting with the enlisted men's quarters, a location yet to be discovered. Another section of the fort, the officer's quarters, was explored back in the 1970's. So far they have found coins, buttons, a cannon ball and other items.

The dig is expected to continue through Friday.
