Archaeological Dig Underway in Bristol
Archaeologists are working to uncover the past this week.
The Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site is once again being dug up. The annual dig is uncovering a village and three different forts from the 17th century. The site is listed as a National Historic Landmark.
The archaeologists are starting with the enlisted men’s quarters, a location yet to be discovered. Another section of the fort, the officer’s quarters, was explored back in the 1970′s. So far they have found coins, buttons, a cannon ball and other items.
The dig is expected to continue through Friday.
