The key to happiness is low expectations? Apparently so if you believe the UK scientists who gave a group of people some money to gamble away and found that the subjects were the most happy when they hadn’t expected to win.
Now on the flip side of that those with big expectations from the get go were immediately more happy…until they were disillusioned by disappointment.
Makes sense to me because I have always thought the fun of the lottery is the fun imagining what you’d do with that mother-load of cash if you did win not the actual playing. What holds me back of course is that you can’t dream, or win I suppose, if you don’t play.
Now this may be true for gambling but for life in general? I have read that Denmark was rated the happiest country in the world because they had low expectations. However, in that same article Andy J. Miller made a valid point too that thinking your results may be more moderate than you could hope for the architecture of your goals should still be your best dream.
So I guess the saying that fits best to me although somewhat doctored here is…” Hope for the BEST, Expect that it might look different from what you imagined and like and appreciate what you ultimately have. Happiness solved, good luck.
