High numbers of people and low amounts of food has caused a desperate call to action to help keep the doors open and hungry people fed.

The Bangor Area Homeless Shelter turned to social media Thursday night asking the community to help them with food donations.

In their Facebook post they said " We are in desperate need right now, anything helps!! Spaghetti sauce (we are completely out), canned vegetables, soups, any kind of meat/protein for meals would be extremely helpful. Please help! Thank you for considering us and keeping us in your thoughts."

They are running the risk of having to turn people away. The kitchen is currently open to the public 7 days a week.

If you would like to help email info@bangorareashelter.org or call the Shelter at 947-0092.
Donations can be dropped off at the shelter at 263 Main Street in Bangor.
