The City of Bangor announced today that Fire Chief Scott Lucas will remain on paid administrative leave until his contract expires. City officials have already started the process of looking for a replacement.

Lucas tendered his resignation, effective December 3, 2014, which coincides with the end of his contract. He has been on non-disciplinary paid administrative leave since September 13th.

City Manager Cathy Conlow said in a press release on Friday that, after careful consideration, " “Lucas and I have agreed that it is in the best interest of the Department and the City that he remains on leave until the end of his contract”. Conlow stated that “as this is a personnel matter, (she) would not be commenting further.”

She says the recruitment process has already begun and is moving forward. The goal is to have a new chief in place by the end of the year. In the interim, the four assistant chiefs are handling the day-to-day operations of the department.
