If you've stopped by the Bangor Public Library recently, you probably noticed that they're closed. But, no worries, they'll be opening in a few weeks with some cool new renovations! And in the meantime, you can still get books.

The library is undergoing some big changes inside. A grand staircase is being installed that will join the old portion of the building with the 1997 addition. Because of the enormity of this undertaking, the library will remain closed until January 4th.

But, inside the building, employees are also very busy! The library is installing a new coding system in which each book will be outfitted with a bar code that's connected to the library's security system and data base.

Now, if you currently have books checked out of the library, they're not due back until January 4th. You can read books and magazines online at the library's site, and there are some other libraries that will honor your Bangor library card until they reopen. They include:

  • The Fogler Library at the University of Maine in Orono
  • The Edythe Dyer Community Library in Hampden
  • The Maine State Library in Augusta
  • The Nottage Library on the Bangor Campus of the U-Maine Augusta
  • The Old Town Library
  • The Orono Public Library

For more information on the changes at the Bangor Public Library, log onto their website. We can't wait to see the new and improved library in a few weeks!
