Bangor Man Charged with Assaulting Child

A Bangor man is in jail after being arrested Monday and charged with assaulting a 1-year-old child.

Matthew McMahan, 21, is charged with a felony because the victim is under the age of 6, according to a Tuesday news release from the Bangor Police Department.

The arrest came after an inital report of a 1-year-old child who had been hospitalized with a suspicious injury on March 18. It was determined that the child had suffered a non-life threatening injury to the back of his head, which caused significant bruising, according to police.

McMahan was dating the mother of the child and living in their home when the injury occurred, police said.

His arraignment date is pending.
