I think this is an interesting study and what it really makes me think is that most communities of any size with the where with all to have public services will lay claim to a poorer population but that said here is how it shook out.

First question you have I’m sure is who are these people and by what did they make their judgements? Well, the article was written by a guy named Nick James for a webpage called Road Snacks.

According to Nick the internet defined ghetto as : “urban; of or relating to (inner) city life” and “poor; of or relating to the poor life.”

Add to that they analyzed data in Maine regarding

  • Household income levels
  • High school graduation rates
  • Number of convenience stores
  • Number of drug stores
  • Number of discount stores
  • Crime

And after analyzing the largest cities here, they came up with this list as the most ghetto places to live in Maine:

  1. Sanford
  2. Waterville
  3. Lewiston
  4. Skowhegan
  5. Augusta
  6. Houlton
  7. Old Town
  8. Westbrook
  9. Portland
  10. Bangor

In case you’re wondering, Cape Elizabeth is the least ghetto city of all we measured. For all their data click here. And have a happy day in the hood.
