Bangor’s Fire Chief is responding to concern over fundraising policy changes that have angered some firefighters and local residents. The controversy revolves around how firefighters present themselves when collecting for MDA.

Chief Scott Lucas told firefighters recently that could no longer wear their professional gear or use city vehicles to help with the ‘Fill the Boot’ campaign for MDA. Traditionally, the firefighters will wear professional gear or specific t-shirts and will park a firetruck across from the entrance to the Darling's Waterfront Pavilion on concert nights.

Some firefighters responded saying they feel it will make it more difficult to garner collections. Lucas says the matter is still being discussed and that hopefully the fire department, firefighters union, and the City of Bangor can strike an acceptable balance.
