When it comes to Christmas shopping, it pays to track what retailers do, not what they say. For all the hype, Black Friday isn’t the day to find the best deals, according to new data.

Instead, retailers’ biggest price cuts last year came on the Monday before Thanksgiving. The weeks before the Black Friday weekend offered better deals than the weeks leading up to Christmas. What’s more, those who shopped on Black Friday were more likely to find items out of stock.

I do find this interesting although I don't have a particular opinion myself. You may have noticed that many stores are choosing to be open on Thanksgiving Day.  If you disagree and think Thanksgiving is for family, not shopping, these stores agree: American Girl, Barnes & Noble, Bed, Bath and Beyond, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Burlington Coat Factory, Costco, Crate & Barrel, Dillard’s, DSW, GameStop, Hobby Lobby, HomeGoods, Home Depot, Jo Ann Fabrics, Lowe’s, Marshalls, Nordstrom, Patagonia, Petco, Pier 1, Publix, REI, Sam’s Club, Sur La Table, Talbots, T.J. Maxx, and Von Maur Department Stores.

Even though it means missing an opportunity to gain sales, dozens of retailers are again taking a stand and keeping their doors shut to give their workers a break and their reputations a boost. According to a National Retail Federation survey, of those consumers who have or will go shopping during the Thanksgiving holiday times, 31.8 percent said they planned to go shopping on Thursday.

How ever you like it...Happy Shopping
