That couch with a free sign on it out by the road may look enticing, but you may want to leave it alone.

Bed bugs.  They become active at night and they want your blood.

They can hide in anything.  Old furniture, behind pictures on the wall, luggage, under the floorboards, behind old wallpaper, in the seams of a mattress and the crevice of a box spring.

Contrary to popular belief, having bed bugs on you or in your furniture doesn't mean that you're a dirty person.  Bed bugs just rely on you to move them.

They are especially active in college communities as students moving into dorms and apartments scoop up that used Lazy-Boy chair beside the road or move that old bed in from the shed.

In Boston the problem has become so bad that City inspector's have begun placing warning signs that say "Beware Of Bed Bugs" on furniture left on the streets.

Stayed in any motels lately? Remember to leave your personal pillow in the car, and when you get home make sure to wash all of your clothes in hot soapy water.

According to the CDC, bed bugs aren't known to transmit disease.  Their bites can cause allergic reactions and skin infections.  But, they more than likely will create a lot of worry and concern to the people that are dealing with them.  Emotional turmoil will create anxiety and insomnia, as the process of getting rid of the bugs is very expensive and long.

According to RaidKillsBugs.com, the first step in eradicating bed bugs is to vacuum high risk areas like inside furniture drawers, in the box spring and the flooring around the area. Then take the bag outside and seal it, or better yet, burn it!

Of course there are a lot of companies out there that will come to your home and inspect for bed bugs and offer you solutions.
