Body Found in Umbazooksus Lake Believed to Be Missing Canadian

Game Wardens Tuesday recovered a body from Umbazooksus Lake they believe is a missing man from Canada. The body was spotted just before 11 a.m. by a game warden pilot surveying ice conditions on Northern Maine lakes.

Wardens on the ground arrived several hours later with watercraft and recovered the body, which was located about 2 miles north of Umbazooksus Dam on the western shore of the lake. The Maine Warden Service believes the body is Renald Poulin of St. Come, Quebec, Canada. The State Medical Examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the man's identification.

Last November, game wardens were looking for two men in an unrelated search when they came across Poulin's vehicle. Canadian authorities were in the region, also looking for Poulin. His family had told them that Poulin had an interest in the train rail system in the Umbazooksus area.

The search for Poulin was suspended on December 13th, 2013 when heavy snowfall made conditions too dangerous. Searchers were to return to the area when temperatures warmed up this spring. Ground searchers were scheduled to begin next week.
