Bruce Springsteen Welcomes Eddie Vedder and Tom Morello at Chicago’s Wrigley Field

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are making plenty of memories in 2012, this time playing the rare concert at another baseball shrine, Chicago’s Wrigley Field. “The Boss” and his band also couldn’t help but invite a couple of longtime Chicago favorites – Eddie Vedder and Tom Morello – to join them frequently during the first of two performances in the Windy City.

As usual, Springsteen went well into the night pulling out 28 songs for those in attendance before finally signing off. With such a large catalog to choose from, Springsteen can pull a surprise here and there and Friday’s (Sept. 7) performance in Chicago featured the 1978 version of ‘Prove It All Night’ as well as the tour debut of ‘None But the Brave.’ But even with the set rarities, it was the special guests that helped make the night.

Though Tom Morello has been a regular at Springsteen shows, the fact that the Evanston native was playing in his hometown made his appearance a special one. Morello stepped out onstage several times during the evening, first lending his skills to ‘Death to My Hometown,’ and later returning for ‘Jack of All Trades,’ ‘The Ghost of Tom Joad,’ ‘Badlands,’ ‘Land of Hope and Dreams’ and two of the encore tracks – ‘Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out’ and ‘Twist and Shout.”

The other big guest for the night was big-time Cubs fan Eddie Vedder, who sat in with Springsteen on ‘Atlantic City’ and returned for the final two encore tracks ‘Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out’ and ‘Twist and Shout’ alongside Morello and the entire party going on onstage.

Springsteen returns to Wrigley Field Saturday night for the second night of the stand, though it is not known if Morello and Vedder will return or if other guests will take part.

The Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will start their next tour leg Oct. 19 in Ottawa, Ontario with North American shows booked through early December.
