Canadian rocker Bryan Adams brought his "Get Up Tour" to the Bangor waterfront Thursday night, offering up a mix of new songs and his '80s and '90s classics to the crowd at Darling's Waterfront Pavilion.

"It comes down to what I can remember," Adams joked, promising a long set of music from his 36-year, hit-filled career.

With no opening act, it was all about Adams, a prolific songwriter and one of the best-selling worldwide artists of all time. And Adams, whose voice still has that raspy power, had no problem delivering on his promise, with more than enough material to keep the audience singing along on the hot, summer night on the Penobscot River.

Adams started out the set with "Do What Ya Gotta Do" from his new album, Get Up!  From there, he weaved through a rocking set featuring the hits "Run To You," "Heaven,"  "Summer of '69" and "Kids Wanna Rock" from his multi-million-selling 1984 album Reckless.

For fans of his even earlier works (and there were several thousand on the waterfront) there was plenty from Adam's breakthrough 1983 album, Cuts Like A Knife, too, including the title track, "This Time," and the school-gymnasium, slow-dance classic "Straight From the Heart."

And after an acoustic version of the 1998 Melanie C. duet "When You're Gone," Adams slid right into "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," from Waking Up The Neighbours.

From the outset, Adams captured the crowd, which had no trouble singing the first verses of "Heaven" and "Summer of '69" as he strummed the opening chords.

One lucky concert-goer named Carolyn (and her husband) also got some tour T-shirts from the singer after she shimmied her way through "If Ya Wanna Be Bad Ya Gotta Be Good,"  on the big screen behind the band.

But Adams, who released Get Up! late last year, also broke some new ground Thursday night, featuring more new singles, "You Belong To Me," "Don't Even Try," "Go Down Rockin'"  and "Brand New Day" during his two-hour set.
