Since the 1950s, The Bangor Daily News has been housed at the corner of Buck and Main Streets in Bangor, it's been a very familiar site, and that will soon change.

A subsidiary of Ocean Properties has signed an agreement to purchase the building.

Ocean Properties owns quite a few hotels in the Bar Harbor area, including the Park Entrance, the Harborside, the West Street Hotel, the Regency, Days Inn and the Ledgelawn Inn.  They also own the Samoset Resort in Rockport.

The BDN housed its printing presses in the Buck Street building until the 1990s, those presses were then moved to its Hampden facility, where they still are today.  As a result the staff only uses about fifty to sixty percent of the Buck Street property.

Once the sale is final, the Bangor Daily News will have up to a year to move on. According to the article in today's BDN, the News employs almost 200 people around the state and will be looking for office space in the Bangor area.

With the new Cross Insurance Center and Darling's Waterfront Pavilion, Main Street in Bangor will be soon be a very busy place.  Sounds like there will be another big hotel soon that will rival the hotel at Hollywood Casino.
