Former Boston Red Sox Bill Buckner will be making a special guest appearance at Hadlock Field in Portland on June 9th.

The Sea Dogs announced that Buckner will be on hand as the team celebrates the 1986 Boston Red Sox who captured the pennant that season before losing to the New York Mets in the World Series.  Buckner will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, sign autographs, and take photos with fans at the event.

The former third baseman was the subject of ridicule after he committed an error in Game Six of the World Series that caused the Mets to win the contest in walk off fashion.  Buckner has since been welcomed back into Red Sox Nation with open arms after the franchise notched three championships since 2004.

Buckner was a lifetime .289 hitter and notched 174 home runs and stole 183 stolen bases.  He also was a National League all-star in 1981 with the Chicago Cubs.

Tickets for the Thursday, June 9th event with Bill Buckner in attendance are available for purchase now on the Portland Sea Dogs website and start at just $9 apiece.
