I think we are all aware that people in general are living longer lives around the world.  The average age for a guy who is 60 today is 79 and a woman 82.

However, where you grow old has a lot to do with how much you’ll enjoy those golden years. And this quality of life for the aging population varies incredibly from country to country.

So where might you go??  According to research by the Global Age Watch Index the best country to currently grow old in is Norway, followed by Sweden and Switzerland, while Afghanistan and Mozambique are the worst.

The US you ask? Well we placed 8th and here is a corker, Canada came in at #4!

So what are they looking at for life quality? GAWI ranked 96 nations quality of life based on their social and economic status of older people, aged 60 and over.

Income, covering the state of pensions, relative welfare of older people, GDP in each country, and poverty rate in old age. Also, health status, including life expectancy at 60 and psychological status.In addition they studied capability which covers the employment level and educational status of older people, and finally what the called enabling environment, including physical safety, social connections and access to public transport.

Experts estimate  that by 2050 the world population of over 60s will be 21 per cent.  This is almost double the current figure of 12 per cent.
