Students at various schools across Cape Cod have gathered to petition Barnstable High School to cancel a scheduled concert by Don McLean.

Back in January, McLean, a resident of Camden, Maine, was arrested on a domestic violence charge.  Now, students that are part of the Mentors in Violence Prevention program at four various high schools on the Cape have had their presidents sign a letter calling for the cancellation of the concert at Barnstable. In part, the program spreads the word that domestic violence in unacceptable.  Barnstable High School is located in the village of Hyannis.

According to the Cape Cod Times, the letter states, “We believe Mr. McLean is a bad role model.  We believe his appearance provided by Spectacle Management on Cape Cod would be a mistake. We believe payment to Mr. McLean for his entertainment enables him to continue a lifestyle we do not agree with.”

As of yesterday, the Superintendent of the high school was in discussion with McLean's management to figure out if the concert should take place.

McLean was arrested at his home in the early morning hours of January 18th, after allegedly assaulting his wife, Patrisha.  He faces six various charges.  McLean issued a public statement back on January 20th, in which he claimed that he "not a villain."
