What can be better than hiking or riding a bike on Acadia's Park Loop Road?  Hiking or biking when there's no traffic on it, that's what!

Once again this year, Acadia National Park will close the ever popular Park Loop Road to traffic on the morning of this Saturday, the 17th, between midnight and 12 noon!  To make it even better, the National Park Service will waive the Park's entrance fee that morning also.

Enjoy all that nature and the park has to offer without the hassle and noise of vehicles passing you by!

The section of the Park Loop Road that will be closed to private vehicle includes the road to Cadillac Mountain, the road between the Hulls Cove Visitor Center and Jordan Pond, and the entire one-way section, according to a National Park Service press release.

The Island Explorer Bus Service and the park concessioner tour buses will continue to operate.

Roads that provide direct access to the park from Route 3 will remain open, visitors are encouraged to park on the roads that takes one to the Hulls Cove Visitor Center, Schooner Head Overlook, and Jordan Pond. Parking will be prohibited at the Cadillac Mountain entrance on Eagle Lake Road (Route 233).

All roads within the Schoodic Point section of the park will remain open.

“We are excited to offer a way for visitors to enjoy a carefree, car-free experience on the Park Loop Road and look forward to working with the neighboring communities to make it a success,” said Superintendent Kevin Schneider.
