A driver suffered non-life threatening injuries after hitting a moose in Aroostook County.

State Police say Michael Kiernan of Haynesville was driving his 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo east on U.S. Highway 2A in Forkstown Township, when he came upon a moose in the road just before 10:30 Monday evening. Kiernan didn't see the animal in time to stop. The moose struck his windshield and damaged the car's roof.

He was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital by a family member with several cuts to his hand. State Police say the vehicle will likely be a total loss.
