Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen Recalls His First Musical Memory
Sometimes it’s a guitar lick, sometimes it’s seeing someone on TV, but for Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, his first musical memory came from his father and an accidental stage appearance.
Nielsen says in a newly released video that’s part of Dave Grohl‘s ‘Sound City’ documentary footage, “I was three years old and I walked onstage during a performance that my father was a tenor in ‘The Barber of Seville.’ I walked out onstage and people started laughing and clapping and that was it. That was all it took. Laughing and clapping, I still enjoy today.”
Grohl not only collected footage talking about the Sound City studio for his documentary, but grabbed a number of musicians and posed the question about their earliest musical memory. Prior to Nielsen, Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich and REO Speedwagon‘s Kevin Cronin offered their memories.
Though he’s been working on it for the past year and things are reportedly nearing completion, a firm release date for the documentary has not been revealed.
