The Maine Marine Patrol has released the identities of a five-year-old boy who drowned after falling in the water while fishing and his grandfather, who died after jumping in to save him.

The boy, Aiden Bulkley, was pulled from the water, within minutes of falling in, by Officer Dan Harlan of the Bucksport Police Department and Lieutenant Roderick Charette of the State Police. The boy was taken to EMMC where doctors tried unsuccessfully to revive him.

When Ronald LaRue, 54 of Mayfield, Kentucky saw his grandson go in the water, he jumped in after him, but was quickly overcome by the current. He also died of apparent drowning.

According to the Marine Patrol, the family was fishing on the town pier, just upstream of the bridge.
