Finding the perfect Christmas tree is an art form. It can't be too big (or too small) to fit precisely in the spot we have reserved for it in our living rooms.

For some, hunting for the right tree involves more than a good eye for its shape or color. It involves a saw and dirty knees.

So, for those who prefer to get on their knees and hack away to bag their tree (and of course yell "timber" when it falls), we've compiled this alphabetical list of farms near Bangor where you can cut your own.

Because we want to make the hunt as simple as possible, clicking below on the farm's name will take you to their website, and clicking on their address will give you a map of how to get there. Happy hunting!

  • Carpenter Christmas Tree Farm

    1114 Bennoch Road, Old Town

    (207) 356-4862

Carpenter Tree Farm is only 15 minutes north of Bangor and is open Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The family-run farm will even lend you a saw to cut your tree and a sled to bring it back to the store. They'll even put it in a net for you so it's easier to transport home. Before you go, though, make sure to grab some cider. Sometimes, finding the perfect tree can take a while (especially with so many to choose from), and it's getting pretty chilly out there.

They'll also net the tree for you at no charge and help you tie it to your car. (That might come in handy if you've ever watched your Christmas tree fly off the top of your car and end up in the middle of the highway.)
