A car carrying two women went off the road Friday night and collided with a tree. Rescue crews had to use jaws of life to extricate them, shutting down a main artery through town for about two hours.

WABI reports the accident happened at around 10 o'clock Friday night on Route 15, otherwise known as the River Road, near the Bucksport line. The women's car struck a tree in the front yard of a home, wrapping the front of the car around the trunk.

It took crews up to two hours to cut the driver out of the car. The women were taken to a local hospital with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The road reopened after midnight and the crash is still under investigation.
