I think we have all decided by this point that texting while driving is a very bad idea.  In many states it is actually illegal.  However, this does not seem to stop some folks propelling in a 2000 lb projectile to see the need to pay attention still. Enter a new technology that might just give them pause.

A  Virginia-based company called ComSonics has designed a radar gun of sorts that can detect if you are using your phone to text. The gun is called a Sniffer Sleuth II,  and is currently in production although no release date or price has been announced yet.

According to the company, it can tell the different of the frequencies used for a text message versus phone call.  They claim the unit can even tell who in the car is texting so the police can tell if the texting person is not the driver.

The device is awaiting approval from legislators amid some privacy concerns, but Malcolm MacIntyre of ComSonics it is ‘close to production.’
