Fire crews, who spent last Friday battling a huge structure fire, were back in the same part of the city fighting another apartment house fire Tuesday morning. Fire investigators have ruled today's fire accidental.

Today's fire was reported around 6 a.m. at 20 State Street. Traffic was being diverted away from the portion of State Street between Bond and Bridge Streets. Central Maine News reports five people have been displaced by today's fire at another apartment house, not far from last week's blaze.

All the residents of the State Street building got out safely. Investigators say it was caused by a malfunctioning space heater and have ruled it accidental.

Friday's fire on nearby Northern Avenue displaced nearly two dozen people and sent 7 to the hospital with smoke inhalation, minor injuries, and hypothermia. The State Fire Marshal's office has said the blaze began in the back of the building on one of the upper floors but they had not yet determined exactly how it started.
