A big party to celebrate the debut of a brand new band was held on this date in 1969 at The Daisy, a members only - private discotheque on Rodeo Drive in Beverly HIlls.  350 guests were invited.  Were you there?  Neither was I.

Motown Records had just signed the Jackson Five and it was the five brothers big debut. It's funny that over the years Michael Jackson's voice never really did change, although the rest of him did.

1979 saw the biggest selling debut album in history, and it took only $18,000 and two weeks to record.  Get The Knack, by The Knack, sold over 2 million copies in just two months.  Reason being was it contained the song My Sharona, which when pronounced by someone from Jonesport sounded more like "My Sharoner."  The American rock band from Los Angeles would never again reach such fame.

In 1994, Ray Parker Jr. scored a #1 song with the theme from the movie Ghostbusters. "Yeah, who ya gonna call?"  Apparently a lawyer, as Parker was accused of plagiarizing the melody from Huey Lewis and the News song "I Want a New Drug."  The two camps met in a back alleyway in Hollywood to settle their differences, and came up with a settlement when nobody wanted to mess up their hair.

In 1999, Kiss showed up on Hollywood Boulevard to unveil their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  When the star looked up and saw their faces it said, "Put the veil back on!"

Eric Carmen turns 66 today.  The man responsible for the beautiful harmonies of all those great songs by The Raspberries went as limp as Paul Wolfe's d**k when he departed the band and started producing soft rock hits like Hungry Eyes and All By Myself.  So, let's focus on the Raspberries!

Classy British singer Joe Jackson turns 61 today.  Yes, he shares the same name as the patriarch of the Jackson family, but claims no responsibility for any of their doings. Joe had a big hit with the classy and high highfalutin song Steppin' Out. Somebody get me a martini and some of those fancy ass puff pastry French cheese straws!
