You've probably heard the Sonny & Cher classic "I Got You Babe", but did you know what song inspired Sonny Bono to write it?  No, it wasn't "Why Don't We Do It In The Road?"

It was the Bob Dylan classic "It Ain't Me Babe" that set him to writing the love song that hit #1 on this date in 1965.  In better years the duo would sing I Got You Babe when they closed out their 1970's TV show.

Meanwhile on this date in 1987 Sonny Bono announced that he would run for Mayor of Palm Springs, California. He'd win that election and eventually would move along to congress in 1996. Two years later he'd die while skiing in California, he hit a tree, and Cher had nothing to do with it.

It was on this date in 2003 that Rolling Stone magazine named Jimi Hendrix as the "Greatest Guitarist In Rock History!"  The flame throwing guitarist with a lotta funk was followed up by Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Keith Richards. By the way, Jimi Hendrix is the I-95 Artist of the Day!

In 2004 Laura Branigan died of a brain aneurysm.  She was only 52.  She scored a bunch of big songs in the eighties including Gloria and How Am I Supposed To Live Without You.  A very talented performer, and far too young to go.

After two long years on the road, the at the time highest grossing tour in rock history came to a close in London.  The Rolling Stones A Bigger Bang World Tour ended on this date in 2007.  It pulled in $560 million, enough cash for Keith Richards to pay someone else to climb the palm tree.
