On this day in 1964 Billboard Magazine debuted it's Country Album Chart, and the first #1 album and artist was.....

Ring Of Fire The Best Of Johnny Cash!  Yup, he was there when it happened, he was there for the birth of rock n' roll!

It was on this day in 1964 that one of the greatest party songs of all time hit #1.  Louie Louie by the Kingsmen was actually banned by a bunch of radio stations because nobody knew what the hell they were singing, and some folks thought the lyrics were very dirty.  The FBI even investigated the song, but eventually found no demonic or communist innuendo within the lyrics. The song ended up on the air and in movies like Animal House, thus the beginning of the end of society.

Jimi Hendrix recorded Purple Haze in London on this day in 1967.  Jimi came up with the idea for the song after he had a dream about walking under the sea.  In the song, many people hear the lyric, "'Cuse me while I kiss this guy."  It's actually "'Cuse me while I kiss the sky."  But, hear what you want, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Even though tickets were selling like wildfire, the Rolling Stones had to cancel their forthcoming tour of Japan when authorities their banned Mick Jagger from entering the country on this day in 1973 because of prior drug convictions. Drugs eventually made their way into Japan, and so did the Stones.

Speaking of dope, it was this day in 2000 that Whitney Houston was busted for trying to smuggle an ounce of marijuana out of Hawaii.  The singer was detained at the airport and eventually paid a fine to be released.  Can't blame her though, Hawaiian stuff is the best.

The "Big Man" was born on this day back in 1942.  Clarence Clemons, the saxophonist for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band was a rock n' roll icon, and stood by his band leader for many years.  Clemons died from from complications from a stroke on June 18th, 2011.
