It was on this day in 1966 that David Jones changed his name to David Bowie.

Davy Jones of the Monkees had become popular by that time and Bowie didn't want any confusion.  In later years he said that he loved that "big American bear-killin' knife", and that's was the reason for the name change.  And if you believe that....

This day in 1969 Diana Ross left the Supremes, and of course being the money making machine that they were, she introduced her replacement that night while on stage. The Supremes are still one of the biggest selling groups in music history.

Clarence Carter was born on this day in 1936.  Who?  Well, if you ever shook your groove thing on the dance floor at Barnaby's at the Ramada Inn back in the late eighties you certainly heard his biggest song.  Strokin' was DJ Mighty John Marshall's "go to" song, and it never failed to fill the floor.

Dave Grohl, formerly of Nirvana and now of the Foo Fighters was born on this day in 1969.  The west coast drummer, guitarist and vocalist and his band played a couple of big nights at Fenway Park last year, and our big league boss (insert golf swing here), said they were the best concerts that he's ever seen.
