The Beatles released "The Beatles," otherwise known as the White Album, on this date in 1968.

It was really the first album that the members of the band worked exclusively more or less on their own specific songs.  It would go on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide and end up at #10 on Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time!

Each album had a number on it to show where it came off the production line, and apparently Ringo has #0000001.  If you have an extra $30,000 or so, maybe you can score it during an upcoming auction on December 3rd.

What's your favorite song from the White Album?  Helter SkelterWhile My Guitar Gently WeepsOb-La-Di, Ob-La-Da?  My favorite is Why Don't We Do It In The Road, of course.

On this date in 1976, The Band made their last appearance together at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, the concert event was filmed and released as The Last Waltz.  Everyone from Neil Diamond to Eric Clapton joined The Band onstage.  The movie directed by Martin Scorsese would be released in 1978.  The Band is a friggin' American institution!

A song that collected $13.6 million towards Ethopian famine relief was recorded on this day in 1986 in London.  The best of the British pop world gathered to record Do They Know It's Christmas. Even though Boy George was a part of it, it still managed to raise a lot $ for a good cause.

Face it, you've seen this movie a thousand times.  The Bodyguard, featuring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston opened on this day in 1992.  The soundtrack to the movie featuring I Will Always Love You went on to sell over 42 million copies.  Chances are, at least a thousand people in this country are rolled up on the couch watching it right now.

On this day in 1996 on the banks of Lake Geneva in Montreux, Switzerland, a ten foot tall statue of the late Freddie Mercury was unveiled. Mercury's father pulled the veil as his band mates Brian May and Roger Taylor looked on. Certainly one of rock's greatest singers and showmen, Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991 from complications of HIV.

On this day in 2000,  a crook broke into Alice Cooper's home in Paradise Valley, California, and made away with over $6000 worth of stuff, most of it belonging to the rocker's daughter.  Apparently the Boa constrictor was not guarding the door that night.  The video below was recorded in Bangor.

By the time he got to Phoenix, Glen Campbell was damn drunk.  It was on this date in 2003 that the singer's BMW struck a Toyota Camry on a street in Phoenix.  Campbell had a blood alcohol level of .20 and was charged with extreme drunk driving, hit and run, and assaulting a police officer.  The cop who arrested Campbell said that the singer was perpetually humming his hit song Rhinestone Cowboy.  They really don't pay cops enough.

In 2007 on this date, Kevin Dubrow, the lead vocalist of Quiet Riot was found dead of a cocaine overdose in his Las Vegas home.  The singer had died six days prior to friends finding his body.  Friends became concerned when he didn't show up for a party, apparently he was in charge up picking up the blow.
