It was on this date in 1968 that Joe Cocker hit #1 in Great Britain with a Beatles song.  He would go on to sing it at Woodstock.  Everyone loved it when Ringo sang the song in his low key way, but when Joe would sing it, he would bust a lung.

Joe's version of With A Little Help From My Friends became real popular in the U.S. after Woodstock but it never was a hit song in this country.  He would soon mellow out, at least briefly, and record Up Where We Belong with Jennifer Warnes, which as fate would have it hit #1 song here in the U.S. on this date in 1982.

Also on this date in 1968 a feature film called Head from the Monkees premiered in New York City.  It was a very dark film bout the manipulation of the group and scenes of Vietnam War atrocities.  The movie flopped.  Apparently the focus group was stoned when they came up with the idea for the film company.

It was on this date that the so called "Bad boys of Boston" played their first gig.  Just imagine, Aerosmith playing your high school.  That's exactly what they did in 1970 at Nipmuc Regional High School in Mendon, Massachusetts. Nowadays, they no longer play high schools, so don't bother asking.  Aerosmith are the I-95 Band Of The Day!

In 1971 Cher hit #1 on the pop chart with 'Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves."  This is another one of those songs that gets stuck between your ears and will not go away until you go screaming and flailing into a wood chipper. Go ahead and play the video, I double dare you.

The Fly Like An Eagle album was becoming HUGE for the Steve Miller Band, and it was on this date in 1976 that Rock N' Me hit #1 on the charts.  I was fortunate enough to see the band play the song at the Hartford Civic Center in 1977.  The Steve Miller Band have been nominated for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, 'bout time.

Glen Frey, one of the founding members of the Eagles was born on this date in 1948. The 67 year-old and his bandmates were due to be honored by the Kennedy Center on December 6th, but everything had to be postponed when Frey recently came down with intestinal problems that require surgery.  That's right, he has a bad case of the s**ts and perpetual gas.  Too bad he still doesn't stand next to Don Felder on stage.
