It was on this day in 1966 that John met Yoko. So, the beginning of the end had started. It was in London as she was displaying her  Unfinished Paintings and Objects Show at the Indica Gallery in London.  It would take just three more years until the Beatles were finished.

Years later Lennon would say, "But once I found the woman, the boys became of no interest whatsoever, other than they were like old friends. You know: 'Hi, how are you? How's your wife?' That kind of thing."

It was also on this date in 1967 that the San Fransisco based Rolling Stone published it's first issue.  It featured John Lennon on the cover dressed in military fatigues and also a roach clip to hold a marijuana joint while reading the issue.

It was on this date in 1969 that Simon & Garfunkel recorded their most popular song ever, Bridge Over Troubled Water.  Turns out that Art Garfunkel wanted Paul Simon to sing the song, but Simon insisted that Garfunkel's voice was better suited to it.  In later years Paul SImon would say that he regretted the decision.  The song would go on to win the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. in 1971.

In 1974, Bachman Turner Overdrive hit #1 with You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet, the band's only number one song.  While recording the song, Randy Bachman stuttered some of the lyrics as a private inside joke between he and his brother Gary.  The record company liked the stuttered version better than the one without and released it. BTO is the I-95 Band Of The Day on I-95!

In 1985, Jan Hammer went to #1 with the theme to the hit television show Miami Vice.  The song was so f**kin' cool that everyone immediately wore their loafers without socks, just like Don Johnson.

Tom Fogerty, brother of John, and the former rhythm guitarist of Creedence Clearwater Revival was born on this date in 1941.  Tom left the band in 1971 and he and his brother John pretty much hated each other until Tom died in 1990.
