It was on this date in 1965 that the Beatles huddled together in a bathroom within Buckingham Palace and smoked pot to calm their nerves.

Later that evening, the Queen would bestow the ever popular MBE, Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, upon the band.  Military veterans protested the honor, and John Lennon said, " "Lots of people who complained about us receiving the MBE received theirs for heroism in the war, for killing people. We received ours for entertaining other people. I'd say we deserve ours more."  Then, he reached for a Twinkie.

Twenty two days after her passing, a wake was held on this date in 1970 for Janis Joplin.  Joplin had left $2500 in an account in order to do so if she passed. Apparently  Friends and family enjoyed brownies laced with hash and fine drinks.  Joplin's body would be cremated and her ashes were spread over Stinson Beach in California. Sand castle makers on the beach wondered what the little specs were in their moats.

On this day in 1979, AC/DC and Def Leppard were due to play an auditorium in Necastle, England, but someone painstakingly left something burning and the place started on fire. The show was cancelled because no one wanted to play in the street.

In 1984, after spending the day listening to Ozzy Osbourne songs, a 19 year old boy from California killed himself.  His parents sued Ozzy because the boy was listening to the Blizzard Of Oz album which contained the song Suicide Solution. The case was eventually thrown out of court after the judge spent a day listening to the same album, and survived, miraculously.

1,730 guitarists played the Bob Dylan classic, 'Knocking On Heaven's Door' on this date in 2007 in a bid to break a record in the state of Meghalaya, North East India. The guitarists hoped their achievement would earn them a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. But it didn't, because Guinness rules called for the Guns N' Roses version.

While touring South American in 2011, Steven Tyler fell in the hotel bathroom and Aerosmith had to postpone that night's show. Tyler broke a couple of teeth and cut his face in the accident, and the chambermaid was chastised for leaving soap in the shower.
