On this date in 1967, Mama Cass Elliot of the Mamas & The Papas was busted in London and thrown into the slammer.

She had been accused of stealing from a hotel.  Must have been that hippie look.  The band had to cancel a couple of shows because of the instance.  Cass was eventually cleared and let go, and would go on to record such heavy hitting ball bustin' rock classics as Dream A Little Dream Of Me.

Before a World Series game between the Cardinals and Tigers on this date in 1968, Jose Feliciano performed a bluesy rendition of the Star Spangled banner.  A conservative nation was horrified, and many radio stations starting dropping his music.  Although the only song that they really could drop at the time was Jose's rendition of the Door's Light My Fire.  That'll teach 'em.

On this date in 1976, John Lennon was awarded his green card and finally awarded citizenship in the U.S.  At one point Lennon would say that he was happy to be living in New York City because he could walk down the streets and people would leave him alone.  That didn't work out in the long run.

It was this date in 2004 that then 54 year old Mick Mars, the guitarist for Motley Crue, received a hip replacement. Following the procedure when asked if he wanted a painkiller Mick immediately whipped into the opening of Dr. Feelgood.  And proving once again that we'll take any topic and blow it up into something f**king huge, Motley Crue is the I-95 Band Of The Day!

John Mellencamp turns 64 today.  Born on this date in 1954 in Seymour, Indiana, Mellencamp started out as John Mellencamp and then turned into Johnny Cougar before coming to his senses and turning back into John Mellencamp.  Never the less, his music from the heartland became very much loved, like his love for blondes, which he has gone through a few of in his time. He is currently dating Christie Brinkley.
