Okay, admit it, you couldn't choose between Betty and Veronica either!

It was this date in 1968 that The Archies debuted on TV. The following year Don Kirshner (who also brought us The Monkees), put together a group of studio musicians and they recorded Sugar Sugar.  The song was the #1 hit of 1969.  We dare you to watch the video, just a little bit of it, and you'll be unable to get the song out of your head for the remainder of the day.  You're welcome.

The song was originally done by Bob Marley, but Eric Clapton made it really famous.  I Shot The Sheriff hit #1 on this date in 1974.  I remember one time I was interviewing then Hancock County Sheriff Bill Clark while the new jail was being built in Ellsworth.  Coming out of the interview I played this song.  He looked at me weird.

The Who's Quadrophenia made it to the big screen on this date in 1979.  It was the band's second rock opera, the first was Tommy.  The film featured Phil Daniels, Toyah Willcox, Ray Winstone, Michael Elphick and Sting.

On this date in 1984 it was the first MTV Video Music Awards, and David Bowie's China Girl won the Video Of The Year!  The song featured Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar and was part of the Let's Dance album. David, who was born Davey Jones, and then changed his name to David Bowie after the Monkee's Davey Jones became famous, has also called himself Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke.   We call him David Bowie, and he is the I-95 Artist Of The Day!

Born on this date in 1949 was Steve Gaines, a guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd when the plane went down in 1977.  Gaines along with his sister Cassie perished in the crash.
