On this date in 1967, the Box Tops hit #1 with The Letter.  We liked Joe Cocker's version better. So did Joe.

The Beatles continued recording the White Album on this date in 1968.  John Lennon worked on Happiness Is A Warm Gun.  He got the idea when someone showed him the cover of a gun magazine.  One thing to note while listening to the song, Doors frontman Jim Morrison was visiting the studio that day and sat there watching Lennon record.  No wonder the song is so very odd.

On this date in 1970, Mick Jagger met his future wife for the very first time.  Following a Rolling Stones concert in Paris he was introduced to Bianca Macias.  Mick thought that he was looking in the mirror, and was so impressed with how sexually attractive he was that he married himself.

On this date in 1980 reggae great Bob Marley collapsed onstage during a concert in Pittsburgh.  Two days earlier, the heavy pot smoking artist from Jamaica had collapsed while jogging in New York's Central Park.  The Pittsburgh performance, against his doctor's orders by the way, would be his last appearance.  Marley died in May of 1981, probably after hearing Eric Clapton's version of his famous I Shot The Sheriff song one too many times.

This day in 1989, Milli Vanilli hit #1 with Girl I'm Going To Miss You.  Soon after group members Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus would be accused of lip syncing all of their songs  chased out of the music business forever.  They actually had to return a Grammy Award.    Pilatus who committed numerous robberies and assaults while resorting to drugs and alcohol died in 1998. Morvan became a DJ at a Los Angeles radio station, a profession where it's very hard to lip sync, although I pull it off everyday.

A great American treasure was born on this day in 1949!  New Jersey's Bruce Springsteen, The Boss, is 66 today, and the I-95 Artist of the Day!  He's sold over 120 million albums worldwide and is a member of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame!
