It was on this date in 1965 that the Beatles cartoon series premiered.  It sucked badly.

ABC Television produced the series, and episode one was titled "I Want To Hold Your Hand."    The group explored the ocean floor in a diving bell where they met a lovesick octopus.  Sound familiar?

Also another big TV premiere happened on this date in 1970, it was The Partridge Family, starring Shirley Jones, David Cassidy, Susan Dey and Danny Bonaduce.  They traveled in a bus and played very groovy music.

On this date in 1975, soul pioneer Jackie Wilson had a heart attack onstage at a casino in New Jersey.  He was a few lines into his hit song Lonely Teardrops, and had just started the line that included "my heart is crying," when he collapsed.  Wilson would live nine more years and die in 1984.

After a night of very heavy drinking (40 shots of vodka in 4 hours), Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham died by inhaling his own vomit at Jimmy Page's house in 1980.  One of the greatest rock drummers to walk the planet was gone.  Zeppelin would disband soon after. John's son Jason is featured at the end of the interview video below.  Jason played with the surviving members of Zeppelin during the reunion concert in 2007, and now tours with Sammy Hagar.

On this date in 1982 Queen played on Saturday Night Live! They performed Under Pressure and Crazy Little Thing Called Love!

In 1992 in Oklahoma City two fans were stabbed and twenty more were arrested at an Ozzy Osbourne concert.  The sale of alcohol was blamed for the fracas. Back then it was very rare that beer was sold at rock concerts, now it's a very common thing, and there's never any trouble....what did I just step in?
