A bad out of Michigan hit #1 on this date in 1973 and we're proud to call them the I-95 Band Of The Day!

We're An American Band by Grand Funk has really withstood the taste of time!  I remember picking up this album while in high school at Kings Department Store, it was covered in gold foil and the record itself was clear yellow pressed vinyl.  It was so cool! Today is Grand Funk guitarist Mark Farner's 67th birthday, he didn't sing the song, drummer Don Brewer did, but the song hitting #1 on this day must have made for a heck of a birthday party.

Meanwhile on this date in 1976, Jerry Lee Lewis was enjoying his own birthday celebration by firing off a couple of rounds into his office door.  Somehow a bullet made it's way into the chest of his bass player, who fortunately survived, but sued the pioneer of rock and roll for pretty much everything that his was worth at the time.  Jerry was just trying to live up to his nickname: The Killer.

On this date in 1984 Prince hit #1 with Let's Go Crazy, the first song on the Purple Rain soundtrack album.  We'd show you a video of it, but his Purpleness has taken them all down from You Tube.

Meanwhile on this date in 2012, Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of the King himself was caught cooking up "battered cod" at a mobile food truck in Rotherfield, East Sussex.  Presley had recently moved to the area from Los Angeles and wanted to blend in with the locals, unfortunately the local paper caught her in the act and made a big deal out it. Kim Scales, who owned the business, said: "Lisa Marie likes to see how we live and experience British life." By the way, the mobile food truck was called "Mr. Chippy."
