On this date in 1966, Donovan had a very groovy song at the top of the charts, and it had a super hero in its title.

It was Sunshine Superman, and it was written by Linda Lawrence, who would eventually turn out to be his wife.  Besides Superman, the song also mentions the Green Lantern.

The Beatles had been recording the White Album, )which in all reality was just called Beatles - but that's another story) when tensions within the band sent of all people, Ringo Starr packing for two weeks.  When he returned to the studio on this date in 1968, Paul McCartney had covered his drum kit in flowers.  Peace and love man.

Hey, nothing abnormal here.  Arthur Brown, an English singer who had a big song in the late sixties called Fire, was arrested on this date in 1968 in Italy while performing the hit.  Seems he stripped naked on stage and then set fire to a helmet that he was wearing.  Hey, it's only rock n' roll, and we friggin' like it, no matter how hot it gets.

On this date in 1991, Ike Turner was released from prison again.  It was the eleventh time that he was.  The former husband of Tina, bandleader, talent scout, producer, songwriter, cocaine addict and wife batterer died in 2007, and is now rollin' on the river of the afterlife.

In 2002 The Rolling Stones 40th anniversary Licks tour kicked off at the Fleet Center Boston, and on this date in 2005, the largest musical event ever to take place in Atlantic Canada happened when the Stones played Magnetic Hill in Moncton to almost 90,000 fans.  The Stones are the I-95 Band Of The Day!
