It was Hey Jude by the Beatles, and and whole bunch of very lucky a very groovy looking people got to join them onstage during the broadcast. The song came in at 7 minutes and 11 seconds long, which made for a whole lot of na-na-nas.

One of the sexiest songs of all time hit #1 the charts on this date in 1973, it was Marvin Gaye's Lets Get It On. Yes, 1971 was the year of getting laid. Oh, you didn't know that?  Too bad.

It was yet another #1 album for Led Zeppelin on this date in 1979, when In Through The Out Door reached the top!   It was the band's eighth album and final album of all new material before their break up.  Zeppelin broke up?  Yes, they did.

In 1990, Jon Bon Jovi hit #1 with Blaze Of Glory, a song that was featured in the movie Young Guns II.  Yes, everyone was a cowboy gun slinger yet again.

In 1997, Led Zeppelin released Whole Lotta Love as a single in England.  It was the first time that the band ever released a single, and they did so to promote the first of many re-issues yet to come.

Benjamin Orr, the fine bass player and vocalist for The Cars was born on this date in 1947.  He sang, My Best Friend's Girlfriend and Drive, among others.  Orr would pass away of pancreatic cancer in 2000.  The Cars are the I-95 Band of the Day!
