Back in the early 20th century, Maine Central Steam Locomotive 470 used to make the trip between Boston and Bangor with many passengers on board, now, the historic train engine sits in Waterville where it's being restored for its new soon to be home in Ellsworth!

The Downeast Scenic Railroad and the New England Steam Corporation will host "Touch A Train" on Saturday, June 20th, to help collect funds to further the restoration of this piece of Maine railroad history!

The event happens at the Washington Junction Yard- just follow upper Main Street in Ellsworth to the Washington Junction road and then look for the start of the Downeast Trail.  The hours are 9AM to 12 noon.

The is a great event for kids and those young at heart that love trains! Come sit in the cab of a historic diesel locomotive, enjoy a "caboose hop" from the yard to the Wye and then return to the yard, and ride in a real railroad motorcar!  The operators will even let you blow the steam whistle!  This is a real railroad operation and the doors will be open for you to tour it!

The New England Steam Corporation will bring the actual bell from Locomotive 470 for you to ring!

The Darling's Ice Cream Truck will be there with free (for a donation) ice cream, and Governor's Restaurant will be serving up free desert samples!

Sooner or later the Maine Central Steam Locomotive 470 will be transported from Waterville to Ellsworth, a huge undertaking, and it will become part of the Maine Heritage Railway for all to enjoy.
