The short tenure of Police Chief Harold "Pete" Bickmore has come to an abrupt end.

Yesterday, the 26 year veteran of the FBI and acting police chief since this past April submitted his letter of resignation to Ellsworth City Manager David Cole, according to the Bangor Daily News.  No reason was given.

“I hereby submit my resignation as City of Ellsworth Police Department Police Chief effective December 29, 2016,” Bickmore wrote in the letter.

City employees were given the new this morning.

Back in October, Bickmore was reprimanded by Cole for disclosing confidential personnel information about another member of the force to a private citizen.

Also in October, Chief Bickmore was instrumental in setting up Project Hope, a free service to those struggling with addiction.  He visited our studios, along with Detective Dotty Small and Denise Black from Healthy Acadia.
