Ellsworth Police are looking for a man they believe shot at a vehicle full of people Sunday evening. Schools in the city are closed today.

Officers were called to the Deane Street Apartments just after 6 p.m. Sunday to a report of a man shooting at a motor vehicle that contained several people. A rear window of the vehicle was shot out, but no one was hurt.

The alleged shooter fled the scene on foot. Just before 10 p.m, 41-year-old Aaron Wagner of Ellsworth was spotted on Route 1A, near the intersection of the Christian Ridge Road by an off-duty Ellsworth Police officer. Officials rushed to the area and tried to track the suspect with police dogs, but they couldn't find him. Wagner was spotted this morning in the area of Bucksport Road and Springer Gymnastics.

Wagner is described as 6'1" tall, 175 pounds, with blue eyes and blond hair. He was last seen wearing a yellow jacket, dark jeans and red muck boots. Police say he's wanted on charges of Reckless Conduct with a Firearm and Aggravated Criminal Mischief.

Schools in Ellsworth are closed Monday in an effort to make parents aware of the search. The superintendent of schools told WABI-TV that there's no threat to the schools or students, but that administrators wanted to make sure parents were aware of the incident that happened last night and the subsequent search for Wagner.

Anyone who sees Wagner is urged not to approach him, but call 911 immediately. The Ellsworth Police were assisted by the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, the Maine State Police, and the Gouldsboro Police Department.
