Ellsworth school officials are pleased this morning after the latest school budget proposal was approved by voters yesterday. In addition, they learned that the school system will receive even more money from state funds, thanks to the new state budget.

It was a much better turnout at the polls this time around, as opposed to the last school budget vote in June. 461 ballots were cast in Ellsworth yesterday, as compared to 234 last month. The new budget proposal passed 286-175. In order to make the budget more amenable to residents, the school board cut over $134,000 from the spending plan, including a decision not to fill a vacant social studies teaching position.

Now, the school board has learned that the district stands to receive a boost in state funding. According to the Ellsworth American, it will get an additional $270,000 in state funds thanks to the budget that was just approved in Augusta.
