You have to love a good winter carnival!

The annual Ellsworth Winter Carnival will take place on Saturday, February 11th.  Some of the events will take place at Woodlawn, and some will take place at Knowlton Park.  Of course once again this year a lot will depend on Mother Nature, and how cold it is and how much snow is on the ground, so here's hoping!

Cardboard Sled Races will start promptly at 10AM at the Woodlawn Museum, otherwise known as the Black House, with preregistration at 9. Also, the Ellsworth Snowmobile Club will be providing rides around the property during the time of the sled races.  Concessions will be sold.

Providing that it snows between now and January 31st, the Snow Sculpture Contest will take place.  The deadline to email a photo of your cold creation is 01/31.  Send it along to unionsquare.ellsworth@gmail.com.  Entries will be judged during the Woodlawn Cardboard Sled Races, in three categories, Judge's Choice, People's Choice, and Most Creative!

Meanwhile over at Knowlton Park on State Street, the ice rink will initially be open between 7AM and 1PM. It will close for "open skating" at that point for Ice Skating Games and Races, the ever popular "Human Bowling", and the Kid's Hockey Shootout.  Following the events, the rink will reopen for the remainder of the day and evening.

Everything will be topped off when fireworks are launched from Ellsworth High School at 6PM! Besides plenty of parking right there at the high school, there's also a lot of space at the Mill Mall and the Ellsworth Elementary/Middle School parking lot too.

The Ellsworth Recreation Commission along with Union Square have put together this year's Winter Carnival. Monitor their Facebook page for any further information between now and then.

The Ellsworth Ice Skating Rink officially opened this past Tuesday, although with all the recent warm weather, keep an eye out for the "Closed" sign.
