Who cooks up the best chowder Downeast?  We'll find out as Ellsworth's 17th Annual "Chowder Fest" is set for Saturday September 27th!

Chowder Fest is part of Ellsworth's Annual Autumn Gold Days and will be held at Harbor Park on that Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m.  The cost for sampling 9 different recipes is only $5 and that will also allow you to vote for the "People's Choice!"

Competing this year will be be Chef Peter Huckins from Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Chef Brian Langley from the Union River Lobster Pot, Chef Ryan Phillips from the Bar Harbor Club, Chef Virginia Moscato from Jaspers, Chef Aaron Porter from The Cellar, Chef Layn Wilbur from Ruth and Wimpy’s, Chef Karen Cimeno from Karen’s Café, Chef Avery Sawyer from Governor’s Restaurant and Bakery, Chef Chip Butterick from Chipper’s Restaurant and Matt St Germaine, the Chef at Finns!

Celebrity Judges who will be "fattening up" that day are Channel 7 News Anchor Craig Colson, Cookbook Author Brooke Dojny, and Top Drawer Award Winner Bob Merrill.

From an Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce press release, "each restaurant is required to bring ten gallons of their signature chowder and some assistance, for serving up the public."

Ellsworth musician Bobbi Lane will provide the music while you're slurping away!

By the way, last year's "Judge's Choice" winners were, Finn's for their clam chowder, and Governor's Restaurant won in the "open division." In the "People's Choice" category, Finn's won again for their clam chowder and Chipper's won in the "open division."
