Ellsworth's Dick Scott has been named the new bench coach for manager Terry Collins and the National League champion New York Mets.

Scott had been the Mets Director of Player Development since 2013.

Bob Geren, who had been Collins' bench coach, left New York to join the coaching staff of new LA Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Dick Scott was drafted by the New York Yankees out of Ellsworth High School back in 1981. After several years in that system, he signed with the Oakland A's in 1989. He played in three games for the A's who went on to win the World Series.

Scott added another championship ring as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks advanced scout team in 1991.

Scott managed in the minors for several years and was named the national Minor League Manager of the Year by Baseball Weekly in 1994 with the A's Modesto team.

From 2001-2009, Scott was Toronto Blue Jays Director of Player Development.

Back in his high school days in Ellsworth, Scott was a three sport standout - baseball, basketball and soccer.

His father, Jack, has been inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame and Maine Basketball Hall of Fame. Dick also is a member of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.

Dick's brother, Tim, is Hampden Academy girls basketball coach.

Scott will make his bench coach debut when the Mets play the KC Royals on opening day April 4th. It is a rematch of this fall's world series teams.
